People near you see it on the map, and the moment stays alive only as long as people care about it. The core idea: attention is the wax

When you publish a candle, it starts with one hour of life. That is the whole clock. If nobody interacts, it fades and quietly goes out after that hour. But every time someone engages, the candle gets more time. A like, a comment, or a gift each adds 45 minutes, and a candle can keep collecting time up to a maximum of 24 hours. So a moment that resonates with the people around you can glow for a full day, while a moment nobody notices simply fades. Attention is the wax that keeps the flame going.

This flips the usual social logic. On most apps, an old post sits in your profile forever, gathering dust. On Candles, relevance is built into the design. The map you see is fresh because it is literally made of moments that people are keeping alive right now. Reading the map

The map is the home screen. It shows candles ordered so the nearest ones surface first, and those can come from friends or from strangers who happen to be around you. This is the closest thing in the app to Snap Map or Foursquare Swarm, a real place based view of who is out and what is happening near you, now with the living candle twist layered on top. You can browse your own neighborhood, see what is lighting up across the city, and tap any candle to view the moment, react to it, and add time to its life.

Posting a moment

Creating a candle means capturing a photo or video from where you are. Candles gives you live filters, face lenses, and premium frames so the moment looks the way you want before it goes on the map. Because the candle is pinned to your true spot, the content and the place stay connected. Think of a coffee at a specific cafe, a view from a specific corniche, or a scene from a specific street, each tied to the exact point where it happened.

Glowing gifts

Gifts are more than decoration. When someone sends a glowing gift, it floats over the candle and, like any other interaction, extends its life. Alongside universal gifts such as crowns, rockets, and hearts, Candles includes Saudi themed gifts like the dallah (دلة), the falcon (صقر), and the ardah (عرضة). Sending one is both a way to celebrate a moment and a way to keep it burning a little longer for everyone nearby to see.

Territory: claim the ground you walk

Territory (احتلال الأرض) turns the map into something you shape with your feet. By walking on foot in the real world, you draw and claim your own area on the map. Candles that fall inside the land you hold take on a golden glow. Levels, trails, and live broadcasts

There are 100 levels to climb, and progressing through them unlocks frames, name colors, and backgrounds, so your presence on the map grows more distinct over time. Dorob (دروب) adds curated day route trails with set stops across Saudi cities, a ready made plan for a day out that ties real places together. And with live broadcasts (بث مباشر), you can go live right on the map, receive gifts during the stream, and bring on a co-host.
